A damaged or weakened tooth often needs a dental crown to restore its strength, shape, and appearance. Traditional crown treatment may require multiple appointments, physical impressions, and a temporary cap while a dental laboratory creates the final restoration. CEREC dental crowns offer a more convenient approach by allowing us to design, create, and place a customized porcelain crown in one visit.
CEREC uses digital dentistry technology to complete the crown process inside our office. After the damaged or decayed area is removed and the tooth is prepared, we capture a digital image rather than using trays filled with impression material.
The image creates a detailed 3D model of the tooth. We then design the restoration to fit your bite and surrounding teeth. The CEREC system mills the crown from compressed porcelain, and the finished restoration is checked, adjusted, and securely placed during the same appointment.
The greatest advantage of a single-visit dental crown is convenience. You do not need to schedule a second placement appointment or spend days protecting a temporary crown. Other benefits may include:
• No temporary cap that could loosen, break, or feel uncomfortable
• No traditional impression material to bite into
• Fewer appointments and less time away from work or family
• A customized design created from precise digital images
• Tooth-colored porcelain for a natural-looking smile
• Immediate protection for the prepared tooth
Temporary crowns are designed to protect a prepared tooth for a limited time, but they are not as durable or precisely fitted as the final restoration. Certain foods may need to be avoided, and the temporary crown can occasionally shift or come loose.
With CEREC dental crowns, the permanent restoration is placed before you leave the office. This helps simplify treatment while reducing the inconvenience and uncertainty that can come with wearing a temporary cap.
CEREC crowns are made from strong dental porcelain selected to complement the appearance of natural teeth. The restoration can be shaped and adjusted to support a comfortable bite while blending with the surrounding smile.
A crown may be recommended for a tooth affected by significant decay, a crack, a large filling, or structural damage. CEREC technology can also be used for certain inlays, onlays, and veneers. We evaluate the tooth carefully to determine which restoration is appropriate for your dental needs.
